It is a sector that attracts Māori and Pacific Peoples and one in which Māori and Pacific Peoples have a proud record of achievement on and off the field of play. Sportspeople Recruitment recognise the uniqueness that Māori and Pacific culture brings to play, active recreation and sport is critical to the Aotearoa identity and wellbeing.

Our recruitment policy is rooted in the principles of tikanga Māori and the values of Pacific cultures, promoting inclusivity, understanding, and celebration of these unique heritages.

1. Cultural Competency: We prioritise the recruitment of individuals who demonstrate cultural competency in both tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures. This includes a commitment to ongoing learning and respect for the nuances of each culture.

2. Whanaungatanga and Va Fealofani: Our recruitment process emphasises building meaningful relationships with candidates, acknowledging the importance of connections and family in Māori and Pacific cultures. We promote an environment that values the  concept of “Va Fealofani” (family relationships).

3. Inclusivity: Our practices actively encourage inclusivity by creating a welcoming space for Māori and Pacific candidates. We support the use of te reo Māori and Pacific languages, providing resources for candidates to express their cultural identity.

4. Cultural Sensitivity: Our team is encouraged to cultivate cultural awareness in both tikanga Māori and Pacific cultural norms. This encourages a shared understanding of protocols and etiquettes, ensuring a workplace that is respectful and inclusive.

5. Consultation with Iwi and Pacific Communities: We welcome engagement with local iwi and Pacific communities, seeking guidance and building meaningful partnerships to respect cultural authority and involve these communities in our recruitment initiatives.
