National Head of Athletic Performance & Sports Medicine - Rugby Australia

Rugby Australia (Rugby AU) is looking for an experienced National Head of Athletic Performance & Sports Medicine to be responsible for the overall leadership, management and the physical, mental and health programing, for players across Super Rugby, National Programs and Pathways.

The role will create and implement high-performance SSSM strategy, structures and systems, including monitoring and tracking, processes and outcomes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage cross-departmental operations between the performance team, including sports science, medicine, psychology, nutrition and strength & conditioning.
  • Establish effective governance, administration and tracking frameworks, systems and processes, linking all areas related to the overall performance of current and future players.
  • Ensure there is a coordinated communications strategy across the coaching, medical, sports science, strength & conditioning, psychology, nutrition and performance analysis domains at Super Rugby, National Programs and Pathways level.
  • Integrate the processes and systems for the handling and storage of all data across Super Rugby, National Programs and Pathways.
  • Support performance staff in Super Rugby, National Programs and Pathways with the development and implementation of high-performance processes and systems to improve tracking and monitoring.
  • Support Super Rugby, National Programs and Pathways in regard to diagnosis, treatment and return to play decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with Super Rugby, National Programs and Pathways, to upskill and create systems in injury prevention and treatment methods.

To be successful, you will need to have:

  • Master’s and/or Doctoral degree in exercise science, sports science or related Field(s).
  • Relevant certifications.
  • Proven ability to lead an elite athletic performance program (experience in Rugby desirable but not essential).
  • High EQ.
  • Proven expereince in developing high-performance systems, processes and procedures.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel – both international and domestic travel.
