- Optimise the performance of Qld’s elite and emerging athletes
- Based at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre, Brisbane
The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is formally transitioning to a Statutory Body created under the Queensland Academy of Sport Act 2025 and is the state’s leading high performance sport agency, currently supporting more than 500 elite athletes ranging from talented juniors through to Olympic, Paralympic and World Champions. QAS expert staff support athletes through in-house programs, partnerships with State and National Sporting Organisations, and individualised support for athletes on medal-winning trajectories to help them perform when it matters most.
The QAS mission to inspire extraordinary sporting success was brought to life when 191 Queensland athletes proudly wore green and gold while representing Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The QAS is now on a mission to be the leader of high performance sport, with a particular focus to deliver more medals across more sports at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, in anticipation of hosting Australia’s most successful Games in Queensland in 2032.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer will lead and manage the QAS, ensuring the organisation is at all times compliant with relevant legislation, codes and regulations, to deliver on preparing Queensland’s elite athletes, teams and coaches for world class success on the Olympic and Paralympic stage. Managing a staff of over 130, the CEO will embody the QAS values and inspire a culture of integrity and continuous improvement throughout the team to deliver the organisation's goals and mission.
The role requires a highly talented executive leader experienced in engaging effectively with a Board, Executive Government and relevant stakeholders, while being accountable for developing and delivering against the strategy and leading high performance experts within the construct of the values and behaviours which underpin the QAS Team.
To be considered for this role you will have a proven track record in managing corporate governance, risk and financial management, with a clear understanding of Board and Government policy, reporting requirements, practices and protocols. With superior planning, visionary and strategic thinking skills, you will have the capacity to confidently manage and coordinate a multitude of complex projects concurrently, navigating the required processes to efficiently produce results.
An in-depth knowledge and understanding of high performance sport environments and experience delivering optimum elite sport outcomes is essential, along with an understanding of the wellbeing and safeguarding requirements of elite athletes of all ages.
This is a unique opportunity to lead the QAS mission, contributing to something inspirational, transformational and significant for Queensland and the nation.
